Weekend Boost No. 43
THE IMPORTANCE OF REFLECTION
I'm hearing from the clients and teams I work with that they are super busy and, at the same time, they are looking for ways to support the change they are seeking and to grow as leaders. When we make time to reflect on our leadership, we create the space for this exact thing. And, I believe you can do this in 15 minutes or less a week.
Here are two resources to help get you started:
In this podcast between Adam Grant and Dr. Atul Gawande (the Assistant Administrator for USAID), Gawande shares his approach for career growth and how he uses a coach to support his leadership in the operating room.
Self-assesment is one way to kick-start reflection. This online assessment is great for getting insight into how we self-sabotage. And this 5 minute self-assessment helps more specifically uncover the listening behaviors we often struggle with as leaders. If you took this one earlier this year (See Weekend Boost No. 8), take it again and see if there's been any change!
THE PRACTICE
Schedule 15 minutes on your calendar each week between now and the end of the year to specifically take time for your own leadership learning and growth. Here are some things you can do during this time:
Read or listen to something that inspires you
Take 5 minutes to write down what you're celebrating from the last week along with your intention for the week to come
Connect with a colleague, peer, friend for a coffee chat on what you're learning about your leadership right now and where you are challenged
