UNPACKING ACCOUNTABILITY
In most of the teams I work with - one of the key elements we discuss and define is what it means to be accountable. In my search for resources and a firm grounding around what it means to be an accountable leader, team, organization, I came upon this one, incredibly comprehensive resource.
Here's an article from Mark Green from the Growth Faculty. In this comprehensive piece, you'll read about the definitions, strategies, and behaviors that create an accountable environment.
THE PRACTICE
Reflect on the following statements related to personal accountability and what Green calls the third type of accountability, "leading by example".
I live my own values (if observed for two days, what would others observe?)
I honor my own priorities (Importance of family, exercise, etc.)
I am coached/mentored for my own growth (Am I leading by example as to how I am growing myself?).
I am accountable for my decisions and outcomes (Are you always accounable for your outcomes or do you blame or externalize?).
When you self-reflect, what do you notice about your own accountability behavior?
