Weekend Boost No. 114
WHEN "OTHER PEOPLE" ARE YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE
We're all unpredictable humans with both reactive tendencies and creative potential. So when the reactivity of others feels like an obstacle, what can we do?
Here are my favorite resources right now for grounding and recentering on what's important.
This blog post reminds us that even when it feels like "other people" are the problem, the solution starts from within ourselves.
Here's my favorite list of tactics - quick things to try when you've been activated.
Tip #10 on this list of tactics involves listening to calming music. For an evidence-based playlist of music that relieves stress and brings clam - try giving this a listen.
THE PRACTICE
The first thing to do when you're feeling annoyed, frustrated, or angered by someone's behavior is to check in on yourself.
Over the next week, try to really notice when you are becoming activated. Perhaps it's really obvious to you, perhaps it isn't obvious but you can tell you're bothered because your heart is racing or you feel like exploding. Whatever it is, first notice. Then, make a choice in how you want to respond.
