PERSONAL GROWTH - GETTING STARTED

In order to grow as a leader, we need to know ourselves what we care about and what we're capable of. Often times these things are hard to describe or capture. As one of my mentors likes to say - "you are all these things and more."

What I know is that committing to some structured reflection and learning is foundational to growing as a person and as a leader.

Here are three of my favorite resources to help you get started (or to revisit) on a personal growth journey.

  • The first step is tried and true - define your Core Values. You can find an abbreviated form of the exercise I do with clients here.

  • Anchoring in self-compassion while undergoing any major life shift or personal development work is essential. Dr. Neff is my constant go-to. Here's a short activity that helps build self-compassion, especially when you're being hard on yourself.

  • I hold multiple perspectives about setting goals. One, however, is that they can be the perfect structure for advancing towards something we want for ourselves or our world. Here's a blog post that shares a framework for setting a goal. Try using it to set on goal for the upcoming week.

THE PRACTICE
