Weekend Boost No. 113
THE SCHEDULE UPDATE - TEDIOUS BUT NECESSARY
It's Fall here in the US which means that whether or not you have kids headed back to school, the energy of fresh starts and new schedules is in the air.
What I've learned from my coaching clients is that getting and staying organized is incredibly personal but when it comes to scheduling - the most important thing to do is stop and take the time you need to update your calendar.
So, if you've been putting it off - or just need permission to slow down for an hour to collect the info you need to update your calendar, here it is - now is the time.
Here are some steps to get you started.
Open your electronic/paper calendar (whatever works for you).
On a separate piece of paper, make a list of all of the events, commitments, that you know of that are coming up/changing. You don't need to know the specifics (just yet). If you take care of school-aged kids this may include bus details, school start time, sports practices/game schedules, after/before school activities.
Next to each event/commitment name your role (i.e. planning, driving (chauffeur), etc.).
If you're in a multi-person household, you will need to do this for each person (or better yet - ask them to make their own list).
Take a few minutes to find the details you need for each event/commitment (time, location, additional details).
Add these events/commitments to your calendar.
THE PRACTICE
Try out the steps above this weekend and let me know how it goes. What's missing?
